The Price Observatory provides the public a greater visibility on price evolution of a basket of selected commodities, both food and non-food products, which are most widely used by consumers for more informed buying.
MOPRI is a mobile application which will help consumers to make informed purchase decisions. Consumers can also verify the prices of controlled products and customize their own basket of goods.
Anyone with a smartphone having Wi-Fi or mobile data connection.
MOPRI App can be downloaded from Google Play Store and Apple App Store.
The supported mobile operating system (OS) versions are:
• Android 10.0 or later OS.
• Apple App Store iOS version 11 or later
The App is optimised for the last 2 recent mobile OS versions, i.e, if the latest version is 14.0, the functionalities of the App with Version 13.0 & 14.0 will be working most effectively.
Price surveys are carried out across 51 pre-determined popular retail outlets in different regions across the island. List of outlets and products may be accessed on https://mopri.govmu.org
The collection of prices for the market basket of goods are conducted between the 10th to 20th of each month.
The prices are collected across 51 retail outlets in different regions and is based on the most visited outlets as per the outcome of the surveys of the Statistics Mauritius (Household Budget Survey 2017) and the visits of the Consumer Affairs Unit.
It will be denoted as ‘N/A’ which means “Not Applicable”.
You can browse through MOPRI App without registering for an account. However, the features available are limited.
As a registered user, the main functionalities that may be accessed are:
My Account helps you to manage your profile details and also keep track of complaints reported through MOPRI App.
My Basket allows you to create your personalised “Basket of Goods” and add on as many products and brands available in the selection criteria.
Once you have selected your products and brands from the Basket of Goods, you can compare prices from two selected supermarkets at a time.
You may report a problem about a good or a retailer via the “Report a Problem” menu on the MOPRI App.
The standard market basket consists of 100 products (food and non-food products) with 462 brands. The selection of products is based on the most consumed ones (common brands across the retail outlets) and availability of the brands across the retail outlets.
The user can choose the product and brands as per their preferences from the list provided (minimum of 5 products must be selected). The user then selects their preferred outlets (display up to two outlets) to look up for the prices.
You may verify a product price by the following methods:
1. Either, by searching a product’s brand name via the search bar.
2. Or, by clicking on the “Controlled Goods” section of the App and browsing through products by each category,
3. Or, by creating your personalised “Basket of Goods” and adding on as many products and brands available in the selection criteria.
You may report a problem with a good or a retailer via the “Report a Problem” menu on the MOPRI App. It is compulsory for the user to register their account to access this feature.
Once the complaint or problem has been logged, an SMS is sent to the Sender indicating the complaint reference number. The Ministry of Commerce and Consumer Protection ensures the confidentiality of your information submitted.
You can view that status of your complaints logged on the User’s profile, under the “My Complaints” section.
