The Price Observatory has been established with the primary objective of monitoring the evolution of retail prices of a list of 450+ selected products (food and non-food products) of wide consumption among a list of 50+ most visited retail outlets based on the Household Budget Survey 2017. The Price Observatory aims to provide consumers with more visibility on prices of certain products. MOPRI is a digital platform implemented to enhance the effectiveness of the Price Monitoring and Control mechanism and the smooth implementation of the Price Observatory.
MOPRI has been developed by the Mauritius Research and Innovation Council under the Public Sector Transformation Scheme, engineered by the Ministry of Commerce and Consumer Protection in collaboration with the Ministry of Information Technology, Communication and Innovation.
MOPRI connects the user, the Ministry and other stakeholders on a single platform. The platform provides the public with a mobile application which allows consumers to create a personalised basket of goods from selected products and compare prices among a selected list of retail outlets as well as report any discrepancy
